I would like to comment on my experience at The J.E.R.K. I joined the group about 3 weeks ago...did I say THREE weeks ago? Wow! Seems like months to me because of all that I have been able to obtain by becoming a member of this wonderful group.
This group has some of the most knowledgable people in the field of legal nurse consulting. I have leaned so much in the past 3 weeks, it is so amazing. "the J.E.R.K. LNC has helped me in so many ways, it's hard to keep this to a paragraph or two but here goes! As a new LNC, the networking aspect of this site is invaluable. Talking with other LNCs about challenges of marketing and how to market, as well as how to handle problems with a case or what might have happend in a case is so helpful and has really boosted my confidence so much that I feel that "I too can do this!" Claire and Vary are so unselfish and caring, they really make you feel like part of a family and not like part of a typical forum. I always feel that I can talk freely with any nurse here on the JERK and not feel devalued or belittled for asking a "dumb question"! I have talked with other LNCs in my State and now know some of the challenges I face here in Michigan. I know many wonderful experts that I plan to use on cases when I get them. People here have shared invaluable websites for standards of care and guidelines, as well as templates for reports, screening a case, doing LCP's, MSA's and much more. "As a new legal nurse consultant (LNC) starting my own business from the bottom up in 2007, I realized that I needed to become part of a larger LNC network in order to gain knowledge, experience and power. From day one, I began to search on the internet for organizations, directories, places and groups that I could join to become affiliated with other LNCs. I yearned for forums to share ideas and thoughts, frustrations and joys, and to ask questions and get answers about becoming a new business owner and an LNC. I also knew that I needed to quickly develop a network of bright, experienced and motivated RNs from every specialty so that I could tap into my resource pool of LNCs subcontractors when I received cases outside my areas of expertise.
During my first year in business, I had trouble finding LNC groups that met all of my needs. I signed up with listservs and entrepreneur groups and nurse's groups in an effort to reach out to those LNCs who might show an interest in meeting and networking with me. My opportunities were limited and not always beneficial or productive, and I found that many LNCs did not want to share, especially with newcomers. Those few that did want to network were interested in taking information from me, but not willing to give in return.
By the grace of some heavenly force one day in late autumn of 2008, I was invited by a stranger in an email to come to the forum of a group of LNCs called the J.E.R.K. LNC, Juris Educational Resource Knowledge for the Legal Nurse Consultant. That simple invitation to a group with such a strange name piqued my curiosity. Little did I know it would open doors and lead me down paths and on to a journey that I would never forget! It has afforded me every opportunity I dreamed of finding in a network of LNCs. A talented, innovative, experienced, giving, nurturing, and sharing group of determined RNs who all strive to become the best LNCs in their area and who work endlessly to help each other grow as they grow, themselves. The J.E.R.K.s are a life-line for any LNC who is looking for a true network with a constant 24/7 give-and-take relationship.
We share opinions, thoughts, ideas, references, and knowledge. We laugh, we cry, we praise, we scold, but most of all we support and encourage. What has evolved in the metamorphosis of the J.E.R.K. LNC group turns out to be a force that is much greater than the sum of the individual participants alone. With this positive energy, our LNC group can conquer any career challenges that come our way.
