Our Guest Speakers
By Paula J Bell RN.Our first guest speaker was Mama’s wonderful husband Robert Hull. Bob discussed with us RAC audits and MIC audits, these are quite important to us because it is a way in which a Legal Nurse Consultant can find a career. Bob spent much time helping us to understand them. We also discussed how the audits will be done, and what is expected. He also shared many documents that are still in the “Guest Speaker” forum. A BIG THANKS FROM THE JERKS! Thanks Papa Bear!
Our next guest was Patricia Coonan, who is an in-house LNC who helps newbies get started. She also shared a case for us to get our brains pumping over, and it worked great to get us all stoked. Patricia also became a full fledged JERK after visiting. Patricia works at the Beasley Law Firm in PA. Thanks Patricia and I am sure we will pick your brains more in the future!
Erika Burnham came to visit us next, she is a LNC and a forensic nurse who specializes in infant mortality. Erica gave us some good examples and some great advice for infant safety. She also gave us some new ways to look at things that even as nurses and mothers we could over look easily. Such as things that put different groups into different high risk pregnancy categories.
Wanda Kartel came to visit us, she does nurse placement in several areas including PA, NJ, and DE. Her e-mail is wkartal@snistaffing.com . She will help try to find jobs for all who ask. Just tell her you are a JERK!
Next we had LeaRae Keyes visit with us. LeaRae gave us many suggestions for selling our business and providing what attorneys need. She has her own forum at http://www.nurse-entrepreneurnetwork.com. LeaRae also gave us many tips for getting started and a “Seven Contact” guideline for catching that attorney. Many tips were also given such as going through the paralegal. Could you function without your right hand? Consider the paralegals as the attorney’s right hand!
Lowell Steiger, Attorney at Law, came to visit us on September 8th. Lowell is a personal injury attorney from California mainly focusing on auto involved injuries. Mr. Steiger gave some great information as to what attorneys look for from their end and helped us with ways to address our concerns with them. He also gave us a one, two, three approach to the hurdles a PI case must face; liability, causation and damages. Mr. Steiger is also our new JRA (JERK Resident Attorney). He will be with us always.
